Learn To Practice Patience

We all have heard the saying patience is a virtue, but how many of us can honestly say that we practice the act of patience?  It’s easy for us to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives that we become accustomed to wanting things to happen yesterday, but life does not often work the way we would like it to.

No matter how many times I may have tried to rush things in my life, it was not going to come to pass because I simply wanted it to.  Patience was something I had to learn because if anyone was impatient with life it was me.  I wanted what I wanted when I wanted it and not a day late.  But I realized God was not going to dance to my song and as I became older and wiser I realized that if He gave me everything I wanted all at once, there would be nothing left for me to look forward to and what’s the fun in that?

I believe that good things come to those who wait because as impatient as I was, I knew I needed to make a change if I wanted to live a life where I wasn't constantly trying to make things happen that were out of my control.  If I were to receive the blessings God had for me I had to learn to trust Him and allow Him to work on His timing; having the faith that what I needed and the things my heart desired would manifest in due time.

If you are having a hard time being patient as it relates to something you've been waiting to manifest in your life, here are three principles for you to incorporate and use daily. I’m sure once you implement these steps, you will begin to see your impatience turn into patience.

1. Learn to enjoy the moment.

Learning to enjoy the moment you are in says a lot about your growth and acceptance with the way things are now.  Instead of being consumed with what you want to manifest in your life, you will start to find hidden opportunities within the season you are in and those very opportunities will prove beneficial to you when you are in the next season of your life.  Understand that where you are is by no mistake. It's only a step that will take you to the next, but if you don’t learn to enjoy where you are, you may miss the blessing that is waiting for you right now.

2. Occupy your mind and time.

When you are busy and involved with things that are a positive distraction from what’s missing in your life, you will allow yourself to enjoy and appreciate what you already have.  We've all heard the saying out of sight, out of mind and with that concept you are not missing what you’re longing for because your focus placed elsewhere.  You are occupying your mind with the present moment and your time with doing the things you love to do which could be a hobby, spending time with family and friends, traveling or enrolling in a course of study. Once you focus on the present moment what you've been waiting for will manifest without you realizing it.

3. Switch gears.

We are all human and have the tendency to let our emotions get the best of us from time to time, but if we learn to recognize when we are going to a place of being impatient and immediately switch gears to one of faith, then your perception of what your reality looks like will change to one of being sure of what’s to come. Faith is a big part in seeing your way through when you have to wait for something to manifest.  It’s being sure of what’s not seen and if you are sure of what’s to come then you are not worried about tomorrow.

Patience is a powerful virtue that we all should practice daily.  Using the principles above, you will find yourself aware of how you feel and how the thoughts you think plays a big role in your life and your perception of it.

Practice patience and live in peace.
